Of daddy hundreds and heartbreaks!
Today was a day for big scores from two of the Bengaluru boys. The fifth test between India and England saw KL Rahul hitting a 199, and Karun going one up and hitting an unbeaten 303*.
Brilliant knocks both! But the subject of this post is something new, I learnt today. So if you are conversant with cricketing lingo, you'd know that a score of 50+ is called a half century, a 100+ is called a century and a 200 is called a double century.
So if you score a 100 runs or a 199 runs, you end up with a century in either case (as Rahul unluckily did today). Don't you think a 150+ score deserves something more than a mere 100. Graham Gooch, England's batting coach, surely thinks so. And, so was born the term "daddy hundred".
A "daddy hundred" is basically a 150+ score. So Rahul cheer up, you just got yourself a daddy hundred!!
PS: A 250+ score can be called a grand-daddy hundred. Gooch hasn't named it that yet though. 😃
