The PUC Validity Discrepancy

With the recent clampdown on traffic violations, PUC centres have been seeing lot of vehicles queuing up for PUC checks. And PUC centres continue to innovate to make even more moolah.

Case in point being the validity of the PUC certificate. For BS4 vehicles, the validity of the PUC certificate is supposed to be one year. For BS3 and earlier, the validity of the PUC certificate is 6 months.

Recently I got my PUC check done and the PUC certificate I got is pretty interesting.

As you can see the note on the top mentions the PUC certificate validity for BS4 vehicles is one year. However, the PUC certificate validity at the bottom mentions a expiry date that is only 6 months away.

And to remove all doubt, my vehicle is indeed a BS4 vehicle as seen in the Registration Certificate below.

So next time you get your PUC done, ensure you get the validity updated correctly. The PUC centre operator has to enter the emission norms the vehicle adheres to manually. Ensure the details are entered correctly to ensure the PUC certificate validity is properly updated.

The PUC certificate itself might not cost much, but the fine for having a expired PUC certificate is a princely INR1,000. So rather be safe, than sorry!

Also, if you are in Karnataka, you can check the PUC certificate details online at the following link. LINK : http://etc.karnataka.gov.in/ValidationRegno.aspx

EDIT : The PUC detials are now available on the parivahan website.

This is what my PUC details online looks like. Notice the PUC emission norms mention "4W Pre Bh. II".
